EVANSVILLE, YOU'RE INVITED!

Show up and show kindness to commemorate 812 Day on August 12, 2024!

What is 812 Day?

A celebration of all the great things our community in the 812 area code has to offer! It is celebrated on August 12 because it is the 12th day of the 8th month.

How Do I Celebrate?

Everyone celebrates 812 Day in their own unique way, with the goal of being mindful of the great community we have! This includes spreading positivity, volunteering, donating, supporting local business, or enjoying local resources such as parks, libraries, museums, and pools. There are hundreds of ways to show civic pride and celebrate Evansville. Below are some ideas to get you started!

1. Block-By-Block

  • Block-By-Block brings together city employees and community organizations to clean up neighborhoods and connect with residents
  • This new initiative will include trash pick up, lawn care, graffiti removal, minor home improvements, and community outreach.
  • Our first neighborhood will be Jacobsville!
  • Contact Ariah Leary at aleary@evansville.in.gov  if you or your organization wants to join in the cleaning effort. 

2. Flag Adoption

  • Join Mayor Terry and the Evansville Flag Group at the front of the Civic Center at 9:00am for the first raising of the new Evansville flag.

3. Shop Local

  • Invest in our community by shopping from local businesses.
  • Shop the City’s official 812 Day t-shirt on the Downtown Evansville Website.
  • We encourage everyone who is participating in Block-By-Block to wear the t-shirt.

4. Support Our Parks

  • Get out and visit one of our 46 parks!

5. Random Acts of Kindness

  • Use the hashtag #812DayEVV and show up how you celebrate Evansville though acts of kindness!

6. Move With The Mayor

  • Join our weekly initiative Move With The Mayor by getting out and getting active!

If I am in business or community organization, how do I get involved?

We are encouraging all businesses to adopt the day and implement 812 Day in a special way that shows love for all the things our area code has to offer and all the great things your business or organization does. Some ideas to implement 812 Day in your business:

  • Offer 812 Day deals
  • Wear 812 Day Merch
  • Sign up as an organization for Block-By-Block
  • Use the 812 logo and hashtag to #812 Day to highlight ways you are contributing the the local holiday
  • Offer a free product or service to outstanding members of your community. (law enforcement, nurses, teacher, etc)
